1st Monday and Tuesday of class

Well Monday was the beginning of my academic career here at UoN (Uni of Newcastle).  First observations - I need to buy tights and stockings (this is a joke).  However, the girls here love colorful tights and black stockings.  Also something to note much of the clothing and hair styles for guys are European looking - the quaff is in full effect here fellas.

First class - Digital Tech for Media and Entertainment - sounds really interesting (no sarcasm), and lucky for me, my lecturer has a nice accent (heavy sarcasm).  The class is going to include an essay 20%, Group Project 30% and one Exam - cumulative- worth 50%. We get to work with Dreamweaver tho, which is fairly exciting news because my website construction skills are fairly rusty.  I was caught up on the very interesting way my professor spoke.  He pronounced TV as Tee-wee, Version was washroom, protocol is pro-toe-cole.  The class only  met for lecture, we will meet next week for lecture and tutorial (the hands on smaller class version of the class) next week.

Tuesday is a whole new story.  I got up for my class at 11am - Design for Advertising.  This class is defiantly chalked up there as one of the most interesting sounding to me - and the lecture reinforced my interest.  My teacher seemed really cool - he has a good deal of real world background and was easy to listen to.  I also found out Stacy is in my class - she was part of the group whom spent the week in Cairns with me!  Following the lecture I had about three hours to kill before I headed to the tutorial for class.  In tutorial - which was lead by the professor Rodger (which doesn't always happen, sometimes they are lead by grad students or field experts) we got our first shot at creating an ad.  Our goal was to formulate an ad which would run in the newspaper, and ensure catching the readers attention and would send the message to become an organ donor.  My four person group created three ads, and Rodger picked our group as having the best ideas for the day. Well done I would say.
So just as I began to think I had everything under control I come home to an e-mail from one of my other professors.  It seems that there was a scheduling mix up and I actually missed a 9am class this morning for Visual Communications.  Not the end of the world!  There is always next week. (So see the revised schedule in the post before this just incase you are looking for me).

Tonight (Tuesday) we also had block dinner to celebrate Sophie's 21st birthday!  We made carbonara fettuccine, Susie made a special salad with lettuce, pear, egg, red pepper, avacado, fetta, carrots, and some other yummy things with a balsamic, and we made australian potato salad - which - i like much more then American potato salad! Finally Ry made garlic bread (because apparently it is highly popular here).

After dinner most of the block headed to the cinema to see the new movie Inception (FANTASTIC MOVIE - GO SEE IT NOW).  And we returned home to a deliciously made chocolate cake (by Liss).

This is all that was left following the cake raid:
