Program Overview
Offered to individuals to pursue research or study for a well-defined research or study project that makes a stay in Scandinavia essential.The ASF's award program for study and research abroad has been the Foundation's most long-standing commitment to educational exchange. During the past 94 years, over 3,800 fellowships and grants have been given to Americans and Scandinavians engaged in study or research projects. In 2007, 80 students, professionals and artists were provided over $750,000 in total funding.

Required Diversity
- Interested students must meet the following:* Applicants must have a well-defined research or study project that makes a stay in Scandinavia essential. * Applicants must be United States citizens or permanent residents. * Applicants must have completed their undergraduate education by the start of their project in Scandinavia. * Team projects are eligible
- but each member must apply as an individual
- submitting a separate
- fully-documented application. * First priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received an ASF award. Only in exceptional cases will a third award be considered.Projects should be planned to fall within the summer 2009 - summer 2010 period.
