Augsburg College Center for Global Education

The Center for Global Education strives to create for its students an intentionally diverse community of co-learners in which a variety of cultures and backgrounds is represented. Students, faculty, and staff help each other form responses to issues of oppression such as racism, sexism, homophobia, economic inequality, xenophobia, and classism in an environment where diversity expands the range of understanding. Towards this end, the Center offers scholarships for students who belong to historically disadvantaged groups. The following scholarships are available:

Global Learning Semesters

HACU, the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities, has partnered with Global Learning Semesters in an effort to increase the number of Hispanic students engaged in study abroad. Over the next ten years, the goal of our far-reaching partnership, the Hispanic Global Alliance is to reduce this gap and help tens of thousands more Hispanic students study abroad.

The Hispanic Study Abroad Scholars Scholarship is one of the main components of our partnership

Global Learning Semesters has committed to making available at least $8 million in scholarship funds to HACU students over the next ten years.

Each HACU Institution that becomes a member of the Hispanic Global Alliance will be able to nominate at least one Hispanic Study Abroad Scholar each semester. The scholarships are for $1,000 and represent as much as 33% of host institution tuition. These scholarships can be combined with other forms of financial aid.

We believe these scholarships will improve the affordability of study abroad for HACU students – with the HSAS scholarships, some Global Learning Semesters programs are among the best-priced comprehensive study abroad programs in Europe.

Semester at Sea

Diversity Abroad Scholarships: Awarded in partnership with DiversityAbroad.com, the Semester at Sea/Diversity Abroad Scholarships are available for summer and fall voyages only. Scholarships are valued at 50% off the cost of the least expensive cabin category available at the time of confirmation. Up to five scholarships will be awarded for the fall voyage. Up to ten scholarships will be awarded for the summer voyage. Applicants must submit an application (available soon for download here), the federal student aid report, personal and parent 1040 tax returns, and a nomination/recommendation by a professor, advisor, or other campus official who can speak to the applicant's commitment to international awareness/action. Deadline to submit all application materials to Semester at Sea is a minimum of six weeks prior to embarkation, though much sooner if possible in order to guarantee availability of preferred cabin category.
