Visiting Your Child Abroad

When you’re child is abroad they’ll be learning and exploring new languages, people, culture, food and more. Why not join them? Like many parents you may be interested in visiting their child while they is studying abroad.

Check with your child to find out when would be the best time for you to visit. Be sure that your visit will not interfere with your child’s classes or otherwise disrupt their cultural immersion experience. Talk with your child to find out when they have a break during their program, or arrange for travel after their term is done.

In general, one of the most ideal times for parents to visit their child is once their study abroad program has ended. You and your child can relax knowing that they will not have to worry about classes. Plus, your child will be very knowledgeable of the host country, will be comfortable with the language and culture, and can show you around. By this time, your child will have gone on various excursions cross-country and maybe even completed a home-stay, these and other experiences will be amazing for you and your child to share after program completion.

Must Ask Questions

  • When is the best time for me to visit my child?

  • How long should I visit

  • Will my visit disrupt my child’s experience?

  • Are there any rules regarding parental visits?
