AIFS in Stellenbosch offers a traditional academic program as well as a Learning for Sustainable Community Engagement Program (LSCE). Students can choose courses from Stellenbosch University’s full course catalog which cover a broad range of subjects. LSCE students take specific courses in Sustainable Community Engagement, plus one or two electives, in addition to volunteer work in the community. AIFS also offers students with an interest in art, photography, ceramics or marketing the opportunity to intern at the Ardmore Ceramic Studio in Kwazulu Natal.
Berlin is arguably Europe’s hippest city – a dynamic, multicultural metropolis where the emphasis is on creativity and expression. This city has been on the rise architecturally, economically and socially since 1989. Cultural offerings include a thriving contemporary art and music scene, world class museums and world renowned orchestras, opera houses and theaters. Academic year, fall and spring semester students select a minimum of 4 classes from a large array of subjects at Freie Universität Berlin including German language (no previous German language study is required). Summer and January (winter) term students select from a number of courses offered at Humboldt University, Berlin's oldest university, including classes in German language, history and culture. Social and cultural activities and sightseeing around Berlin are included. Depending on the academic term, travel excursions may include a trip to Potsdam; Prague, Czech Republic; London, England; Dresden; or a week-long European city tour.
