API at Lorenzo de’ Medici – The Italian International Institute in Tuscania and Rome, Florence or Venice

Students spend one month on a traveling study abroad program by starting in Tuscania, followed by one month in Rome. Students then complete the experience in either Florence or Venice depending on which semester they choose. Students complete a structured and integrated program of five 3-credit courses, which together comprise both a unique investigation into the roots of Western civilization and a grounding in modern Italian language and culture. 3 Cities The 3 Cities program is the perfect option for the student who wants to experience as much of Italy as possible in one semester while discovering the roots of Western civilization and culture as it evolved through the great empires of antiquity. Western civilization is the end product of widely contrasting cultures that evolved over hundreds of years. With the Renaissance it became possible to unite the strands of these cultures in a new and exciting synthesis that prepared the way for the birth of the modern world. This semester-long study abroad experience allows students to retrace the steps of Greek, Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance cultures by living and studying in three cities that embody these civilizations in all their richness and splendor: Tuscania, Rome and either Florence or Venice.

HIGHLIGHTS
The dramatic and romantic appeal of Edinburgh is endless, set atop its volcanic crags with medieval cobble-stoned streets, a majestic castle and a skyline of turrets, domes and spires. It is easy to see where the inspiration for Harry Potter came from! The elegant Georgian facades of the New Town are a contrast to the winding, twisting alleys and hidden courtyards of the medieval Old Town. Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city, is not just a historic city, it is also forward looking, seat of the Scottish Parliament and boasting a vibrant cultural scene of live music, performing arts, galleries and museums and plenty of buzz. It is a great place for students, who make up 20% of the population and is home to one of the largest arts festivals in the world. Overlooked by the extinct volcano of Arthur’s Seat, sitting in the open parkland of Holyrood Park, Edinburgh is one of the greenest cities in the UK.
