Art and Design Semester: A leader in art and design education since its founding in 1896, Parsons has cultivated outstanding artists, designers, scholars, businesspeople, and community leaders for more than a century. Parsons has had a presence in Paris since 1921. Students enrolled at Parsons Paris develop creative and critical thinking skills and apply them to challenges including environmental and economic sustainability and social concerns. Parsons’ network of interconnected design laboratories enables students to explore global phenomena at a number of sites and scales of engagement in on-campus research and initiatives with international partners that focus on urban life in Paris, New York, and elsewhere. Art and Design Summer: The program allows you to experience Paris from an insider’s perspective by exploring the history of European art and design firsthand in the many museums and design studios throughout Paris. The program is open to all students who wish to deepen their art and design knowledge and develop their skills in a rigorous academic environment. Paris to Barcelona Summer: API students have an unprecedented opportunity to learn from some of the best culinary and artistic minds in the world through study in this traveling program between Barcelona and Paris. Students begin with two weeks in Paris at Parsons Paris – The New School, and then continue on to finish the program with two weeks in Barcelona at ELISAVA – Barcelona School of Design and Engineering. Two study tracks are available: Design and Food Cultures, and Consumer Evolutions in Shopping and Visual Merchandising. Art and Design Pre-College Summer: High school students are introduced to the art and design college experience in Paris. The program is open to high school students entering their junior or senior year and recent high school graduates. Many enroll to develop a portfolio for the college admissions process. Classes are held from approximately 9am-4pm. Students will choose ONE course to complete during the three week program. No prerequisites required. HIGHLIGHTS Paris is well known as one of the most intellectual and intriguing cities in the world. The city maintains its status as the premier city in France and a leader in politics, art and fashion; every section of the city has its own unique charm and makes Paris a city like no other. For the history lover, the tour should begin in the heart of old Paris, the Ile de la Cité, which lies in the middle of the Seine River. Here one can explore the Cathédrale de Notre-Dame de Paris, the Palais de Justice and a hidden jewel, Sainte Chapelle. For the art lover, the city holds countless museums, all boasting incredible collections. Some of the most popular include the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Musée Rodin and Centre Georges Pompidou. Tucked away in the city’s twenty arrondissements, or districts, are many more amazing sights and sounds waiting to be discovered.
