The Costa Rica community service trip is a two-week program intended to introduce students to the local communities and diverse natural environment of Costa Rica. During the first week of the program students will live in a hostel in the beautiful valley town of Orosi in the Cartago province. Students will engage with the local community through service work as well as activities such as soccer, dancing, and dinners with local families. Students will also have a few Spanish lessons to either brush up on their Spanish or for beginners to learn the essentials. During the second week of the program, students will stay as a group in hotels. Participants will travel to the Caribbean coast performing service work at a sloth sanctuary and with sea turtles. API program leaders will lead several guided group reflection sessions during the program. All meals, events and activities, including a visit to a hot spring and a canopy outing, are included in the cost of the program. On year of Spanish or the equivalent is required for admission. Upon completion of this program students will receive a certificate documenting 30 hours of community service.
