This eight-week program pairs a Modern Chinese History course with a beginning Chinese language course. The history course focuses on 19th, 20th and 21st-century China, examining its social, economic, political and intellectual trends. The overarching theme will be that of modernization as students examine the opposing and frequently antagonistic forces which have given shape to China today. A variety of cultural tours complement the academic program, and may include visits to Beijing, Xian, Guilin, and Hong Kong.
