CIEE Global Sustainability & Environment Program in Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town is perhaps the best microcosm of the challenges facing many African countries in transition – making it the perfect location to study sustainability matters. During CIEE’s Global Sustainability and Environment program, local experts and CIEE’s expert staff will provide the tools you need to develop a real-world project to help Cape Town. It won’t be easy, but it will be fun. You’ll also experience South African culture by living with a host family, going on trips and excursions throughout the country, and more. Study abroad in Cape Town and you’ll: - Spend three days in a former South African township to see how disadvantaged groups live - Experience life in an EcoVillage for a week - Learn to speak Afrikaans or isiXhosa - Attend local theater, music, and dance productions, and rugby matches

CIEE Summer The Politics of Africa Multi-Site Program in Legon + Dakar

Immerse yourself in the richness and complexity of West African politics in two of the region’s most politically active countries. First, see how activism and governance are defined and demonstrated in Ghana, the first African country to achieve independence. Then, gain a deeper understanding of the components of a stable democracy – from history to influences of religion and politics – in Senegal. Along the way, you’ll compare and contrast the successes and challenges of both political landscapes.
