Griffith was founded on a strong sense of social justice and a willingness to commit wholeheartedly to extending academic innovation to social change. During these founding years, the lnterim Council took the view that everybody in the community should have access to the University if they wished and could benefit from attending. Many of the early student cohorts at Griffith were the first children of their families to attend university and many were the first women to do so.
