IES Abroad Milan - Music: Tradition & Innovation - Semester/Year

Whether you’re fluent in Italian or you can only say ciao, you are welcomed with open arms by the IES Abroad Milan Center staff. At the Center, there is a full range of opportunities for instrumentalists, vocalists, composers, and performance majors, and partnerships with the Civica Scuola di Musica, the Conservatorio G. Verdi, the Milano Classica Chamber Orchestra (spring only), and La Verdi Symphonic Choir. In Milan, you get an education tailored specifically to your musical needs and interests. Enjoy being surrounded by some of the world’s top musicians and educators—including the Center Director who is an active composer and music scholar whose pieces are performed worldwide! Milan will be your classroom. Envision yourself catching an opera at La Scala or working as an apprentice with some of the top musicians in the world. You can work with an instructor who can help you hone and develop your area of study, immerse yourself in the operatic tradition, play in an ensemble, and take courses in music theory or history at one of IES Abroad’s partner institutions. We also help you with instrument rentals and studio time arrangements in Milan. You are invited to attend performances on a regular basis, from productions at La Scala to smaller concerts at intimate venues throughout the city. You can even enroll in a music internship, which includes time spent working at your placement in addition to an academic seminar that helps you contextualize what you’re learning. We want you to feel at home in Milan, so we do everything we can to help you integrate into life in the city.From housing to cultural events, our job is to make sure you have the most authentic study abroad experience possible.

IES Abroad Rabat - Study in Rabat - Semester/Year

As you walk the boulevards of Rabat, it’s hard not to be enchanted by the mystery and tradition of this timeless city. From the bustling souqs (open-air markets) and energizing atmosphere of the city to the serenity of the surrounding mountains and sea, Rabat is an ideal place to learn about the languages, cultures, and religions of North Africa and the Arab world. Delve into the fascinating layers of this North African nation as you learn Modern Standard Arabic with courses at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Learn Colloquial Moroccan Arabic to communicate with Moroccans, and if you have already taken advanced French, you can take French-taught area studies courses at the IES Abroad Center or local universities. Our curriculum focuses on North African and Islamic Studies, and IES Abroad courses introduce you to the many influential forces shaping the history and culture of Morocco. Rabat will be your classroom. Rich in cultural heritage and a diverse population, Morocco has been influenced by many different ethnic, cultural, and religious groups that have settled in the country throughout its long history. Visit historic treasures like the Rabat Archaeological Museum, the Hassan Mosque, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V to see ancient artifacts and learn more about the Islamic cultural influences. You can also add international work experience to your résumé while earning credit by participating in an internship placement and accompanying academic seminar. IES Abroad — Study in Granada Semester/Year

Our curriculum takes full advantage of Andalusia and all southern Spain has to offer. The program offers two unique program options that are designed to improve your Spanish proficiency: the Intermediate Spanish Program and Advanced Spanish Program.Students placed in the Intermediate Program take IES Abroad courses in both English and Spanish. The Advanced Program courses are conducted entirely in Spanish, including study at the Universidad de Granada. Both options introduce you to Spain’s Moorish heritage and Jewish past, and its continuing links to North Africa through Islamic and Contemporary North African Studies. Advanced students can also experience Arabic language courses of all levels, at the Universidad de Granada. You can also add international work experience to your résumé while earning credit by participating in an internship placement and accompanying academic seminar.
