Switzerland: International Studies and Multilateral Diplomacy

Examine the evolving nature of multilateral diplomacy in contemporary international relations and discuss intergovernmental, supranational, and regional organizations' strategies for and responses to current security challenges in the international system. From its base in Geneva, this program provides a thorough background in international studies, using an experiential case study approach. The program addresses the most contemporary international issues through classroom seminars and through lectures and briefings at international organizations, including United Nations agencies, the Red Cross, and EU institutions, among others. India: Summer Innovation Lab—Food

Through excursions, site visits, and discussions with experts in the field, all of which are complemented by hands-on projects, you will develop new skills and diverse perspectives necessary for analyzing the sustainability of food production and nutritional security within integrated and rapidly changing Himalayan agricultural systems. On this program, you will study Sikkim’s dynamic genetic pool of agro-biological resources developed by mountain communities through generations of diverse cultivation and conservation practices. You will learn about and analyze how climate change, globalization, and state government policies impact food production and nutritional security in mountain communities. This course culminates in collaborative group projects related to food, designed by you and innovation lab co-participants in conjunction with local communities.

South Africa: Education and Social Change

This summer program examines the role of education in South Africa in the context of the country’s historical circumstances, contemporary public policy, and social and economic development. Students typically spend time at primary and secondary schools as well as adult educational centers in urban and rural KwaZulu-Natal.
