PRINTDiversity Abroad & Semester at Sea Scholarships
The objective of the Diversity Abroad & Semester at Sea Scholarships is to increase access to Semester at Sea’s global educational opportunities to students from diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Program Background
Made available through a partnership between Diversity Abroad and Semester at Sea, up to five scholarships of $13,000 will be awarded for fall and spring voyages. Up to ten scholarships of $6,500 will be awarded for the summer voyage. Scholarships award amounts are equal to 50% off the cost of the program fee (cabin categories vary).
Eligibility
• Must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited American university or college.
• Must meet admission requirements for and be admitted to Semester at Sea.
• Must be willing to share your experiences on Semester at Sea with the DiversityAbroad.com community and agree to be featured in promotional materials such as web sites, blogs, press releases, etc.
How to Apply
All application materials must be received by March 12, 2010 for the summer 2010 voyage and by April 16, 2010 for fall 2010.
- Download the short application document from the Semester at Sea web site
- Submit a short video essay on the topic “How does a deep understanding of diversity make you a more effective global citizen?” Videos should be no more than 3 minutes in length. Upload your video to http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=diversityabroad&view=groups.
- Step 1 – Sign up or Sign into YouTube
- Step 2 – Go to http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=diversityabroad&view=groups. Find the group that corresponds to the term you’ll be sailing with Semester at Sea and “Add Group”
- Step 3 – Add Video Title
- Step 4 – For Tags, put “Study Abroad, Diversity Abroad, Semester at Sea, International Student Travel, Global Exchanges, “Your University Name”
- Step 5 – Category “Travel & Events”
- Step 6 – Privacy “Share your video with the World”
- Step 7 – After you have upload video, go to “Accounts”, the go to “Groups”, go to “Diversity Abroad / Semester at Sea Scholarship Applicants” Group, go to Add Videos, check your video essay and click “Add to Group
Applicants without access to the necessary technological resources may submit a written essay of approximately 500 words to scholarships@diversityabroad.com. Please include a recent photograph as an attachment to the email submission.
