I would highly recommend making a budget for yourself before you leave for study abroad.  Try to find out how much you are willing to spend for going out to eat, buying clothes, souvenirs and travel.  During the first month also try to keep track of how much you are spending and on what then you can rewrite your budget to more accurately fit your life stye while abroad.  Also be sure to stick with your budget, especailly if you are trying to save money.  Study abroad is expesnive and it is easy to sepnd money while you are travelling, so just be careful. If you have a hard time sticking to your budget write out how much you spend on your purchases and hoepfully this will help you restrict your spedning if you see you are going way over budget

Deciding on how much money to bring depends on where you are going. Try to see if you know anyone else who has traveled to where you are studying abroad and see how much things cost.  It also depends on how much you want to buy.  If you love to buy souvenirs probably plan on bringing more money.  I would recommend on bringing a little start out cash maybe enough to last you the first week or so and then use your credit card at an ATM.  also be aware that many banks charge you to use another ATM machine, for example my bank charges $5 per withdrawal so try to only use the ATM a few times.  Also be aware that when you use your credit card at an ATM or a store the bank will charge a fee for the exchange rate, mine is about 3% of the purchase price.

Also make sure to tell your bank and credit card company your are studying aborad so they do not freeze your accounts on you!!!!!!

 Good luck Ivory
