I think it is important to practice your religion no matter where you study abroad. I will be going to Japan in a few months and I often wonder how many Christians are there and if it will be an issue by walking around with a bible in your hands. Any thoughts on this?

Good day!

I'm Stephania and I'm new in this forum.
Yes your right, wherever we go we need to practice our religion. We don't know how many Christian to the place that we went to. For me religion is very important, we must stand what we really are and be the model of our religion.

Regards to everyone and see yah later.

I've always wanted to study abroad for greater opportunities, and i really believe that if we go from places to other places we should keep our faith in God and make him the center of our will.

Best of luck for all of us. God Bless

I am planning on studying abroad in Costa Rica in the Spring of next year. As a religious person, I hope that I can find a church or a group of other students who are Christians as well. Either way, I know that my religion will always be a part of me. I think you'll be fine. Practice your faith, but know that some people may be curious and have questions. I am going to be open to new ideas and religious practices that way I'll still get a lot out of my study abroad program and learn some new things! :)

Joining a religious group where you are studying abroad is a great way to meet new people and make connections with the local culture.  Just be prepared that the way you do things in your church may not be how the locals practice.  Be open to new ways of doing things and expereince the local religion.  Also talk to people and dont be shy to start up conversations with others on difficult topics like religion.  some of the best conversations I have had in Denmark have been about the church and politics

I agree that culture and religion are very important, and for the most part are related around the world.  I am going to Costa Rica, and as a Catholic I also hope to find a church where I can attend mass and everything.  I feel that while it is important to practice your religion abroad, it is also imperative to learn and become aware of the religions presented in your host country.  This will add to the overall experience you gain, and will help you connect even more with the people of the nation Smile

I'm happy to find this topic. I have pretty much the same feelings as everyone who posted. Everyone's words just encouraged me to continue to be strong in my faith while in a new country.

Thanks Guys
