Any information about Sevilla    Email  Print Forum

Hey I am going to Sevilla in about to weeks and was wondering if anyone could help me out on what to expect. I am black for one so I know that I will definitely stand out. If anyone has any experience about being a minority there, and how to people would react to me that would be great. But besides that are their certain things I shouln't wear or say. What is the atmosphere like in Sevilla and the people. Thanks so much,

Nagela

Hey Nagela... I haven't been to sevilla, but my friend who is black studied there last semester and she didn't have any problems. the one thing that she mentioned is that spanish people use to refer to her as ""negra"" but not in a bad way. She said they just call people by color. she said she never felt anyone was being derogatory. anyway i hear really good things about the city; it's one of the places that i'm thinking about going to intern. i hope this helps.

You have nothing to worry about and you will not "stand out"

I’ve never been to Sevilla before, but I do know sth about that place. A beautiful, artistic and cultural city in southern Spain, Sevilla boosts some great attractions, which attract people of all nationalities, which in turn, make it pretty diverse. So I think there is no need for someone to worry about racism, bias, discrimination or anything like that. Here, to a large extent, you won’t be judged by where you are from, but by who you are, what you do and how you work. You just try to integrate into their life and be one of them. And never try to be different.
