This program that I'm in made us do a list of things that are considered a ""culture shock"" for us Americans who are living in Italy and I figured it would be cute if I shared some: 1) Hail buses, not taxis. (Buses may not stop at their stops unless someone sticks out their hand to catch the bus driver's attention. You can only call for taxis in Firenze, not hail for them on the streets). 2) It's considered rude to eat while you walk. 3) Having a clean and thoughtful appearance is respected here. Remember that Italy is one of the top countries of Fashion. 4) Try to speak in Italian as much as you can. You get so much more respect. 5) You are legal here ma citywide quiet hours begin at 11 PM. 6) It's considered uncouth to order beer with your meal at a restaurant. Beer is only for when you order a slice at a pizzeria. 7) Italy runs at a much slower pace than the US. Don't be surprised when things open late and close early. 8) Wearing sweatpants and flipflops and going outside with wet hair just screams ""American"" I can't think of all of them right now, but if I think of anymore, I'll be sure to post them up! |
