Muscat, the coastal capital of Oman, is an exciting location to study both Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Omani Arabic. Students wishing to improve their Arabic proficiency over the summer can enroll in either one or two rigorous 4-week sessions of the Intensive Arabic program in this off-the-beaten path Arabian city. AMIDEAST students in Oman utilize their Arabic as they wander Muscat’s souks, marvel at its beautiful mosques, or watch fishermen pull in their daily haul from along greater Muscat's extended coastline. The Summer Intensive Arabic Program in Muscat offers Modern Standard Arabic and colloquial Arabic in two four-week sessions (6 credits each session). Classes meet 5 hours per day, five days per week. Each session features 100 hours of Arabic language instruction, including both Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Omani Arabic. One summer session covers the material usually presented in one semester on a U.S. campus. Students are given placement tests prior to departure and are enrolled in the level appropriate for their Arabic language proficiency. See program website for course descriptions or email EdAbroad@amideast.org for course syllabi. Need-Based Scholarships, $500-$2,000.
