Students of Color in Chile

Posted on October 14, 2020

Abstract

Chile is primarily White and mixed White-Amerindian (mestizo), with only a twentieth of the population being of Mapuche or other indigenous descent. Most individuals of Asian or African descent living in Chile are foreigners. Despite its lack of racial diversity, Chilean society does not have a history of racism or bigotry and Chileans exhibit a wider range of skin tones than its race category percentages might indicate.
