BCA Chennai, India

Chennai is the fourth-largest city in India and is known for its culture, music and film. It’s also a well-known city for the automotive, technology, healthcare and hardware manufacturing industries. Located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, Chennai is 367 years old — the city was previously known as Madras, one of the first outposts for the British East India Company. Its exciting theatre sector heavily influences the classical dance form, Bharatanatyam. Visitors who enjoy both the arts and business worlds enjoy the historic city of Chennai.  The city is home to the Tamil film industry, one of India's largest, and hosts Madras Music Season, an annual music event that welcomes hundreds of artists.

Community Connections
As a BCA student, you have a profound opportunity to connect with locals through your internship with an organization or business in the city. This experience, along with the guidance provided by your BCA Resident Director and your internship coordinator, will allow you to form relationships with locals and an appreciation for Indian culture that will last long past your time studying abroad. Outside of your internship, you will engage with Indian students in your classes, cafeteria, on-campus housing, and through campus activities that highlight the vibrant culture, music, theater and sports scene that Chennai offers.

Cultural Activities & Excursions
BCA’s Resident Director in India acts as your cultural guide as you dive into the cultural hotspots of Chennai and helps you to gain the confidence and knowledge you need to navigate the city on your own. You also travel through India together to better understand the country’s vast historical and cultural diversity. Excursions outside of the city vary by semester but in the past have included the world-renowned Taj Mahal, the cave sanctuaries and ornate rock engravings at Mahabalipuram and the picturesque seaside city of Pondicherry.

Study at one of the top 10 liberal arts and science colleges in India, Madras Christian College, which offers a variety of courses in the liberal arts, humanities, science and business. All BCA students enroll in an Indian culture and society course, which introduces you to Indian culture, the social system and Tamil, the local language. Internships are available in business, religious studies, education, history, international relations, occupational therapy, political science and philosophy. The Social Work Department offers 200-hour placements, but placements for additional hours may be available upon request.
