Scholarships for studying abroad, much like scholarships for college, can cover the majority of your costs. However, it takes a lot of hard work and patience to ensure that you submit the most successful application possible.

If you haven’t already, start applying for scholarships to study abroad as soon as you are interested in going. For example, if you want to study abroad in the summer, you should be researching scholarships as early as January, if not during the fall. There are thousands of scholarships currently available to students of all backgrounds and experiences. Make sure you give yourself enough time to research and apply for as many scholarships that you can, as application deadlines are typically at least 6 months ahead of your expected departure.

Because scholarships and grants do not have to be repaid, they are an excellent way to finance your study abroad experience. In general, scholarships & grants are based on merit, need, diversity criteria or where you will be studying. There are many institutions and organizations that provide scholarships for study abroad, including:

    • When and how will I find out about the status of my application?
    • How will I receive the award? Will it be mailed to me or sent directly to the school?
