AIFS Study Abroad in Florence, Italy: Semester Internship Program
The International Internship Program (IIP) includes mandatory Italian language, a 3- or 6-credit unpaid internship and one or two additional 3-credit courses related to the internship, and students may also choose an additional 1-credit optional Introduction to Italian Art course taught during the field trips to Rome and Venice, for a total of 15 credits earned for the semester. Placements are available in art, history, tourism, marketing, journalism, business, fashion, education and more. Prior to the start of the program students will have a 2-week Language and Internship Preparation Course to help them acclimate to life in Italy. Volunteer opportunities are available. A traditional academic program is also available, as well as a Fashion Management and Marketing Program.
Earn college credits studying subjects including Spanish language and culture at the prestigious University of Salamanca, Spain's oldest university. Founded in 1218, University of Salamanca is Europe's third oldest and Spain's leading national institution for Spanish instruction. Depending on the program term, select your course of study from a broad array of subjects. Academic year, fall and spring semester options include Spanish studies combined with International Relations, International Business and Culture programs as well as Integrated Studies with Spaniards. This is an optimal location to study Spanish language in a region of Spain where the purest Castilian Spanish is used. Accommodation options include an apartment or Spanish homestay. January term (winter) students study Spanish Language taught at four levels with no previous Spanish study required. Enjoy cultural and social activities such as a guided tour of Salamanca, a tapas tour, Spanish cooking class, visits to galleries and museums and much more. Travel and cultural excursions may include a trip to Madrid; a trip to Madrid and Toledo; a visit to Segovia; a trip to Toro and the Zamora wine region; a trip to Ribera del Duero; a tour of Andalucía, Seville, Granada, and Cordóba; a trip to Lisbon, Portugal; a tour of Marrakech, Morocco; and an optional tour of London, England in advance of classes. Earn credits through a wide variety of courses when you study in beautiful, historic Florence at Richmond University. You’ll have the option to live in a homestay or in a student apartment as you experience many social and cultural activities, such as trips to local art galleries, an Italian cooking class, and visits to the local museums. Enjoy trips to Rome, Siena and Venice, immersing yourself in the Italian culture. Volunteer and internship opportunities are also available.
AIFS in Florence includes a one-week orientation before the semester begins so students can acclimate themselves to Italian language and culture. Fall semester students attend orientation in the beach-side town of Pietrasanta, while spring semester students attend orientation in Rome. A for-credit International Internship Program (IIP) is also available, in which students take a 2-week Intensive Language Preparation course worth 2 credits. In the spring semester, a Fashion Management and Marketing Program is also offered. Volunteer opportunities are available and interested students can enhance their volunteer work with a for-credit Service Learning and Active Citizenship course. In the summer, academic and internship programs are offered, including a 3-week Wine Marketing Program (1 week in Barolo and 2 weeks in Florence).
