API at the Universidad Veritas in San Jose

Multidisciplinary and Environmental Studies: Students who choose to study abroad in San José through API’s Multidisciplinary and Environmental Studies Program at the Universidad Veritas will complete a combination of intensive Spanish language courses and elective course offerings in English or Spanish. The number of Spanish language courses desired dictates how many elective courses students complete each term. Language courses are four weeks long and consist of 80 contact hours in the classroom. Elective courses generally range from 48 to 60 contact hours and most home institutions award between 3 and 4 U.S. semester credits per elective course.

Art & Design: This program offers advanced Spanish speakers the opportunity to study art and design abroad by taking integrated courses with local Costa Rican students in the areas of advertising design, architecture, digital animation, interior design, photography, and product design. Students are highly encouraged to complete an intensive month of Spanish upon arrival and may consider taking one elective course in Spanish for international students to complement their studies with local students. Program fees include a maximum of up to 18 credit hours, which may consist of a mix of integrated courses with Costa Rican students and 1-2 courses designed for visiting international students.

Latin American Studies & Internship: This program at the Universidad Veritas provides an opportunity for students to improve their Spanish language skills, gain professional experience, and earn academic credit toward their degree plan by studying and participating in an study abroad internship in San José, Costa Rica. Students must enter the program with an advanced level of Spanish. Language & Culture: Students who choose to study abroad in San José through API’s Language and Culture Program at the Universidad Veritas have the opportunity to complete a Spanish language course and select from an incredible variety of elective course offerings in English or Spanish. Students participating in a winter, spring, or fall quarter program complete one intensive, 4-week Spanish course (representing a total of 80 contact hours) and three elective courses. Subject areas include art, business and economics, history, international relations, political science, and Spanish literature. Contact hours for each elective course range from 48 to 60 hours and students are advised that their home institution could choose to award between 3-4 U.S. semester credits for each elective course.

Multidisciplinary and Environmental Studies Summer: Students who choose to study abroad in San José through API’s Multidisciplinary and Environmental Studies at the Universidad Veritas have the option to focus on improving their Spanish skills, complete elective courses in English or Spanish, or both! Students have two options depending on which track they select - including an intensive language course, intensive language and an elective, or two elective courses.

HIGHLIGHTS Located in the central valley of Costa Rica, San José is a vibrant urban center in the heart of a serene and beautiful nation. Three volcanoes surround the city, and quaint villages, farms and coffee plantations dot the hillsides. Though the metropolitan area is home to 36% of the nation’s population, one can easily explore the smaller central area of the city and discover its neighborhood markets and local restaurants. Cultural opportunities including theater, music, cinema and dance are also abundant in San José. Visit the Museo Nacional; the Museo de Oro Precolombino, with its sparkling collection of pre-Columbian gold; or the Museo de Jade, which boasts the world’s largest collection of jade.

API Gap Year in Paris, France

Students in this program select a combination of French language and cultural electives, and have the option of taking cultural electives in English. Contact hours of French language depend on the level of French a student has. Depending on how many contact hours of French language and culture a student takes, they may be able to take 1 or 2 cultural electives (offered in English).

Live with local host families, in a shared apartment, or in a student residence and experience Paris like a local.

Students at all levels have the option of earning an additional three credits each semester if they complete an elective course taught in English exclusively for UCONN and API students through the University of Connecticut.

All students with 4 semesters of college-level French (equivalent to the intermediate level) or more are able to participate in the teaching internship for an additional 3 credits. Beginning and intermediate-level students can also do the internship, but are not eligible to earn credit or a grade for the experience. Spaces are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first served basis and is an additional fee.

API High School French Language and Culture Immersion Program Paris, France

The API French Language Immersion Program provides students with the opportunity to study intensive French language at the Institut Catholique de Paris, located in the 6th arrondissement (or neighborhood) of Paris. Five (5) U.S. college credits can be earned by students upon successful completion of their studies. Students will live with local host families who provide students with half-board and laundry once per week. Most classes will be held in the mornings, allowing for participation in API cultural and recreational activities in the afternoons and evenings.
Paris is well known as one of the most beautiful and intriguing cities in the world. While the city maintains its status as the premier modern city in France and a leader in politics, art and fashion, every city street holds some portion of the history of the city.
For the art lover, Paris holds hundreds of museums, all boasting incredible collections, including the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Rodin and the Centre de Georges Pompidou. For the history lover, the tour should begin in the heart of old Paris, the Ile de la Cité, which lies in the middle of the Seine River. Students can explore the past, discover the present and create their future with Aspire by API in Paris.
