Business and Latin American Studies Program: This program at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez is open to students at all Spanish levels. Students have the opportunity to complete Spanish language courses along with business, Chilean culture, and Latin American studies courses in English or Spanish. Students with an advanced level of Spanish are welcome to select integrated courses with Chilean students from the standard university course offerings. Courses with Chilean students are available in business administration, engineering, journalism and psychology, as well as other areas of liberal arts and the social sciences. Students who elect to complete courses with Chilean students will need to stay several extra weeks in Chile due to a more extensive exam period and will be assessed an additional fee for extending their housing. During the orientation period on-site, all students complete a language placement test to determine their Spanish level.
Santiago, both the capital and largest city in Chile, bustles with activity and is home to more than a third of the nation’s inhabitants. Despite its large size, Santiago’s extensive public transport system, including an underground subway, makes it an easy city to navigate. Founded in 1541, the city is nestled in a plain between the Andes Mountains. It is the country’s political, cultural and economic center and boasts all of the corresponding attractions. Students will enjoy its incredible views, where the city’s skyscrapers and surrounding mountains can be admired from afar, as well as its museums, historic sites, shopping centers and restaurants.
Students in this program select a combination of French language and cultural electives, and have the option of taking cultural electives in English. Contact hours of French language depend on the level of French a student has. Depending on how many contact hours of French language and culture a student takes, they may be able to take 1 or 2 cultural electives (offered in English).
Live with local host families, in a shared apartment, or in a student residence and experience Paris like a local.
Students at all levels have the option of earning an additional three credits each semester if they complete an elective course taught in English exclusively for UCONN and API students through the University of Connecticut.
All students with 4 semesters of college-level French (equivalent to the intermediate level) or more are able to participate in the teaching internship for an additional 3 credits. Beginning and intermediate-level students can also do the internship, but are not eligible to earn credit or a grade for the experience. Spaces are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first served basis and is an additional fee.
API students will discover the wonders of Italy on this two-week art, language and culture program. Starting in Rome, students will visit many of Rome’s major sites, including St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums. Then, the group will travel to Tuscania to meet welcoming host families ready to prepare home-cooked Italian meals for students while they live in an idyllic medieval town to explore the creative arts of drawing and photography. Tuscania has been admired for centuries for its picturesque setting, fine culture and foods, and cobblestoned streets. Surrounded by medieval walls and guard towers, the town provides endless opportunities for authentic cultural immersion.
Students will spend mornings studying Italian language, photography* and sketching with the wonders and beauty of Italy as the backdrop for inspiration. In the afternoons and on weekends, students participate in experiential activities such as pottery workshops, cooking classes and urban treks, and will explore the pillars of Italian culture and history with visits to Florence and Venice.

Language Level: No Italian language experience required
Housing: Local host families/hotels; Some meals and laundry are included; breakfast and dinner daily are included. Students are responsible for buying lunch.
