Volunteering abroad offers a unique opportunity for personal growth while making significant contributions to the local community. Open your heart, lend a hand, and seize the day as you embark on a purpose-filled adventure! API has developed strong relationships with conservation groups, animal rescue centers, orphanages, schools, hospitals, and non-profit organizations abroad. We will work with your skills and preferences to best match your passions with the availability, needs, and objectives of the local host community. API will provide you with the support and security you need to successfully plan your volunteer abroad adventure!

API Gap Year in Paris, France

Students in this program select a combination of French language and cultural electives, and have the option of taking cultural electives in English. Contact hours of French language depend on the level of French a student has. Depending on how many contact hours of French language and culture a student takes, they may be able to take 1 or 2 cultural electives (offered in English).

Live with local host families, in a shared apartment, or in a student residence and experience Paris like a local.

Students at all levels have the option of earning an additional three credits each semester if they complete an elective course taught in English exclusively for UCONN and API students through the University of Connecticut.

All students with 4 semesters of college-level French (equivalent to the intermediate level) or more are able to participate in the teaching internship for an additional 3 credits. Beginning and intermediate-level students can also do the internship, but are not eligible to earn credit or a grade for the experience. Spaces are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first served basis and is an additional fee.

API international internships provide students with the unique opportunity to explore and cultivate their future career path through a high-quality, 8-week credit-bearing placement in several exciting fields and destinations. API internship programs encompass a number of career development and cultural resources to help participants maximize their personal and professional development. Internships open to high school graduates, 18 years old and above. Gap year students are eligible for 8-Week Fixed Date Internships in select locations.
