University College London

University College London, (UCL) has a prestigious history—it was the first university to be founded after Oxford and Cambridge, the first in the UK to accept women, and the first to accept students regardless of race or religion. UCL is ranked among the top universities in the world, and its outstanding academic departments include English, economics, arts and humanities, engineering, neuroscience, and the social and historical sciences. You’ll study with highly regarded faculty and researchers; UCL’s rigorous coursework means that this study abroad program is best if you’re a junior or senior with a specific academic focus.

  • At UCL, you’ll apply to a particular department. UCL’s tradition of small group teaching means that there may be some restrictions; but if admitted, you’ll benefit from the support of a departmental tutor experienced working with visiting students.
  • Qualified students in the fine arts may find a place at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art, which offers courses in fine art, drawing, painting, theater design, or the independent studio program (slide portfolios are required). If accepted into the Slade School, supplemental fees may apply.
  • You’ll make plenty of friends at the large UCL Students’ Union, where you can join a diverse range of clubs, sports, and societies. The building houses restaurants, pubs, and shops. Students in the performing arts societies perform at the Bloomsbury Theater, UCL’s semi-professional theater. UCL also has several sports facilities open to students. You are also welcome to use Student Central facilities in central London.
  • Situated in Bloomsbury, you’ll be near to the staff support at the Arcadia London Center as well as cultural attractions like the British Museum and Regents’ Park.
  • If you plan to take courses in neuroscience, please note that a 3.5 GPA is required to participate.
