University of Canterbury

The university boasts a number of field stations for the study of marine science and geology. It has particular strengths in engineering, biological sciences, chemistry, anthropology, religious studies, philosophy and law, and offers an Antarctic studies program. Additionally, Canterbury’s School of Business and Economics has recently earned AACSB business accreditation. Spend a semester or year at New Zealand's second-oldest university and a center of research and academic excellence. Canterbury's academic program is divided amongst five colleges and a school of law. It is well-known for its engineering program, and it is only one of two universities in New Zealand to offer this major. It is the only university to offer speech and language therapy, and astronomy.

Our Resident Director in Havana will be on-hand to help you every step of the way and you will live and study in the vibrant Vedado neighborhood of central Havana close to the university, cafes, music venues and local student hangouts.
As the largest in Cuba and one of the most renowned universities in the Caribbean and Central America, the University of Havana offers a unique and exciting learning experience. Direct-enrollment courses in a variety of departments at University of Havana, one of the premier universities in the Caribbean and Central America. Particular areas of academic strength are: politics, Afro-Caribbean studies, music, literature, philosophy, sociology, history, biology and international relations.

  • Cornerstone Course: The cornerstone course, Cuban - U.S. Relations: Past and Present, is taught by faculty of the Centro de Estudios Hemisféricos y sobre Estados Unidos (CEHSEU - Center for Hemispheric and U.S. Studies) at UH. The four-credit course will give you an introduction into the historic and socio-cultural background of Cuba and help you understand current developments in the relationship between the U.S. and Cuba.
  • Spanish Language Course: You will be placed into a Spanish language course appropriate to your level.
  • Two-Three Electives: In addition to the cornerstone course and the language course, you will choose between two and three elective courses offered by the University of Havana, studying alongside Cuban students, in any department of the university except Law and Medicine.
