The German Summer Language Intensive is comprehensive, with 20 hours of class per week, daily quizzes and written assignments, and weekly tests. Course work emphasizes vocabulary acquisition, grammar comprehension, reading improvement, and writing competence, as well as verbal and aural precision. Language is taught in conjunction with our cultural program, which focuses on five main themes: Berlin today; old Berlin and Prussia; Weimar Berlin; Jewish life, Nazi Berlin, and the Holocaust; and the divided city.
The German Summer Language Intensive (SLI) is for students at North American universities who have completed at least two semesters of college-level German or its equivalent. Students earn four credits.

The program is based in artistic practice, including studio arts, performance, media, and the interplay among them. History and theory courses take an interdisciplinary approach to draw upon the wealth of Berlin's museums, monuments, galleries, performances, and non-traditional venues.
