Global Civic Engagement Institute London

Learn about community activism through observing and participating in important local, national, and trans-national agencies. In the Institute, students learn to understand and analyze the theoretical perspectives that shape social activism. By the end of the Institute, students will have a clear idea of how globalization impacts communities and urban environments. Participating hands on in the social dynamics of London, students observe the ways in which the lives of residents reflect the diversity of one of the most radically transformed environments in the world. London has something for everyone, including the more than 300 different languages spoken in this hugely diverse city. This certificate goes beyond a minor by exploring a topic using courses across several majors. The courses combine discussing theory in the classroom with practical experiences outside the classroom. Students will develop skills needed for a life of active and engaged citizenship. The certificate authorizes that students connect ideas with action in exploring a pathway to a career in a civic or political industry. The certificate takes the place of a minor or specialization.
