FIE's Dublin summer program is an incredible way to spend 5.5 weeks studying, exploring, and travelling in Ireland. The program offers students the opportunity to gain an understanding of Ireland across a broad spectrum of study and experience. Students complete two courses during the program: 1) An Insight into Irish History, Politics and Literature and 2) Irish Culture and Society. The program includes two co-curricular field excursions to Northern Ireland and Cork to contextualize and deepen the experience. Also included are living accommodation in shared apartments in central Dublin, a full calendar of weekly extra-curricular activities, and an amazing staff available around the clock to support the group throughout the program.
Offered in cooperation with AMIDEAST, FIE's five-week Summer Program in Peace and Conflict Resolution will bring you to three of the world's most interesting capital cities: Dublin, Belfast, and Amman. The program begins in Dublin with the course The Life Cycle of Peace and Conflict: Lessons Learned in Northern Ireland. The class uses Northern Ireland as a case study for exploring how those peace and conflict theories translate to Middle Eastern issues. A study tour to Belfast contextualizes the case study.
After two weeks spent in Dublin, the group leaves for Amman to begin their second course, Conflict Resolution and Management: Beyond the Arab-Israeli Conflict. This course will address the impact of cultural and societal factors on conflict resolution and management, focusing on case studies across the Middle Eastern region. Housing for this portion of the program is with host families. There is an optional four week Arabic language program extension in Amman.
