Founded on Calvinistic principles, today the entrepreneurial spirit of the Dutch culture lives on with a lively arts scene and cafes. The strong work ethic in Amsterdam produced a society supportive of Dutch masters like Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh that fill the museums today. The original religious zeal has been transformed into the uniquely Amsterdammer gezellig frame of mind. Our Study in Amsterdam Program takes advantage of the unique balance of history and contemporary culture in this city, and lets you structure your studies at the prestigious Universiteit van Amsterdam and at the IES Abroad Center. Several courses include handson components to help you explore the city of Amsterdam and its surroundings while learning about the past and present. Amsterdam will be your classroom. With an important place in European history, the city is far from frozen in time many forwardlooking public policies originated here. Study the history of Amsterdam by visiting some of the historic spots, including the home of Anne Frank and the Rembrandt House. Explore the wellknown museums in Amsterdam, such as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Stedelijk Museum, to find out more about this diverse culture. Welcome to study abroad! IES Abroad London - Study London - Semester/Year

The goal of our 40+-year-old program is to help you explore contemporary London, both physically and culturally. Gain a deeper knowledge of British culture, including the central importance of history to the British. Explore the global impact of Britain on Western culture, including art, literature, and financial and political systems. Choose from more than 40 IES Abroad-taught courses taught by expert local faculty at our Center, as well as a course at one of our prestigious local partner universities—City University, Queen Mary, or the School of Oriental & African Studies. Not only are there hundreds of courses and disciplines available through our partner universities, but you also have the opportunity to make local British and international friends. Additional unique offerings include our Global Leadership Certificate for students interested in leadership studies (see page 14) and our creative workshop courses that focus on the production of a piece of creative work (writing, film, or fine art). While adding study abroad to your résumé is impressive enough, adding an international internship is even more powerful, and can help distinguish your application for graduate school or a job opportunity in today’s competitive market. Before you depart, we talk to you about the type of placement you’d like and then work to match you with a placement in London. Service learning placements are also available if you would like to gain a deeper understanding of the city’s culture and society.

Barcelona - Liberal Arts & Business Feast your eyes on the many sights of Barcelona! Admire the stunning Modernisme architecture of the Sagrada Familia church, stroll through the whimsical Park Guell, shop the markets and street vendors of La Rambla, visit the beautiful beaches�should we continue? You can experience it all here. There are a wide variety of courses available, primarily taught in English by our world-class faculty. When you arrive, you are grouped into language proficiency-based levels to focus your course enrollment options. This will also provide a sense of community with your fellow students and will challenge you to maximize your learning. In addition to your Spanish language course, you will choose from a variety of English-taught IES Abroad courses, as well as Spanish- and English-taught local university courses to round out your semester. All IES Abroad courses include field study activities that help you connect coursework with your surroundings. You can also take Spanish-taught IES Abroad courses. Barcelona will also be your classroom. You will easily find yourself at home in the second largest city in Spain, rich with influence in global commerce, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts.
