Santiago Center

The program begins with four weeks of intensive Spanish language study at the CEDEI Institute in Cuenca, Ecuador (optional for students with four semesters of college Spanish, required for students with three semesters of college Spanish). A small, artsy city, Cuenca is known for its breathtaking mountain geography and the warmth of both its climate and people. After the Cuenca program, you'll spend the remainder of your semester in Santiago, with your choice of classes at local universities. The Santiago program begins with the required Signature Seminar, Contemporary Issues in Chile and Latin America. You will continue language study in Santiago, and enroll in at least one non-language class taught in Spanish at affiliated Chilean universities and/or classes at the SU Center. The SU Santiago program is designed to maximize immersion and language acquisition through homestays, interdisciplinary field study, and enrollment in regular semester classes taught in Spanish at the Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Catolica. SU Abroad students enroll in classes alongside Chilean students in a wide range of disciplines. Both undergraduate and graduate students have the option to participate in a professional internship.

Madrid Summer Session

Create your own program by choosing from an array of courses, including Spanish, writing, LGBT studies, and psychology. Travel to Andalucia, visit Madrid’s art museums, and attend the theater and concerts. Or experience the Spanish workplace by doing an internship in local businesses. As part of your academic program, you’ll go on long-weekend study tours to two of the most celebrated regions of Spain. In Andalucia, learn about Spain’s unique history as you visit important sites such as the Great Mosque of Córdoba, the Seville Cathedral, and the Alhambra of Granada. During the session, you will live with a family or in a local residence hall, and experience authentic daily life in Madrid. You’ll also participate in extracurricular activities, such as a visit to a vineyard for a wine tasting, a cooking course, a bullfight, and a hiking excursion, and you’ll get to know young locals.
