USAC Scholarships: Shangchu Zhang Posthumous Scholarship (Shanghai, China)

This one-time $1,500 Spring 2020 scholarship will be granted in honor of Shangchu Zhang, who passed away in 2019. Mr. Zhang taught the Chinese Calligraphy class for the USAC Shanghai Program since 2014 and was extremely passionate about teaching USAC students. He believed that learning is fun, and his unique approach to teaching Chinese calligraphy had a long-lasting impact on many USAC graduates. Calligraphy, this art form that even Chinese think unapproachable, became easy and fun. His motto was "teaching others teaches yourself". To USAC students, what Chinese culture really meant was not only represented in the symbolic calligraphy art but also fully articulated by his teaching philosophy, his beliefs, and his personality.

Degree-seeking students with a minimum 3.0 GPA attending the Shanghai, China program in Spring 2020 are eligible for this scholarship.
