An IES internship develops your professional skills, your ability to communicate across cultures, and provides substantive work experience to jump-start your career in today’s competitive job market. You'll be guaranteed an unpaid placement at a local business or organization, where you'll work for at least 32 hours a week. You also will enroll in a required 1- or 6-credit academic internship seminar with other IES interns, where you’ll learn about a variety of local business settings and opportunities. Before you depart, we work with you to fine-tune your résumé, perfect your cover letter, and hone your communication and interview skills as we prepare you for working in a new cultural environment. Spend your free time getting to know London and its surroundings through IES Internships-organized cultural events and optional field trips to places like Stonehenge, Stratford-Upon-Avon, and Brighton.
Richmond’s International Internship Program provides students with vital insight into a career field, experience in the global workplace, practical exposure to the demands of specific jobs and development of professional and personal skills. Internships are available in a wide range of companies and institutions in advertising, art, design, art history, fashion, international business, marketing, media, journalism, politics and government, communications, psychology, theater and more. This unique program allows students to build their résumé while earning 12 credits and enjoying the benefits of the study abroad experience. Volunteer opportunities are also available. An international internship at FIE is a pre-professional, field-based experience coupled with coursework. It is a fantastic way for students to experience working life in another country, and to refine their future career goals and strengthen their resume. The study and intern program is available for the fall and spring semester (15.5 weeks), a shorter course (9-10.5 weeks) is offered during winter quarter or summer. FIE's Experiential Education Team evaluates a student's CV, coursework and experience carefully to ensure an appropriate match is made between the student's background and an organization's needs. London is your classroom! Using the city, your faculty will lead co-curricular activities to museums, theatre productions, brewery's, historic sites, and more to put classroom theory into practice. On the London Internship Summer Program, you’ll engage with London as both a professional and a student. You'll intern three full days per week over the summer, with coursework designed to complement your work experience and to reinforce your professional and academic interests. There are placements available in wide range of industries. This is a unique and affordable study abroad opportunity—if you want to network this summer, this may be a great program option.Placement options include: Advertising; arts; business operations; film & television; accounting and entrepreneurship; hospitality; journalism; law; politics (including parliament); marketing; non-governmental organizations; psychology; public relations; and theater. As a Parliamentary Intern, you will contribute to the everyday operations of important figures in British politics and develop an insider’s understanding of how the British legislature – the House of Commons and the House of Lords – make policy ideas into law.In addition to your placement and the Cornerstone Course, you will enroll in one additional elective.
