An IES internship develops your professional skills, your ability to communicate across cultures, and provides substantive work experience to jump-start your career in today’s competitive job market. You'll be guaranteed an unpaid placement at a local business or organization, where you'll work for at least 32 hours a week. You also will enroll in a required 1- or 6-credit academic internship seminar with other IES interns, where you’ll learn about a variety of local business settings and opportunities. Before you depart, we work with you to fine-tune your résumé, perfect your cover letter, and hone your communication and interview skills as we prepare you for working in a new cultural environment. Spend your free time getting to know London and its surroundings through IES Internships-organized cultural events and optional field trips to places like Stonehenge, Stratford-Upon-Avon, and Brighton.
Richmond’s International Internship Program provides students with vital insight into a career field, experience in the global workplace, practical exposure to the demands of specific jobs and development of professional and personal skills. Internships are available in a wide range of companies and institutions in advertising, art, design, art history, fashion, international business, marketing, media, journalism, politics and government, communications, psychology, theater and more. This unique program allows students to build their résumé while earning 12 credits and enjoying the benefits of the study abroad experience. Volunteer opportunities are also available. An international internship at FIE is a pre-professional, field-based experience coupled with coursework. It is a fantastic way for students to experience working life in another country, and to refine their future career goals and strengthen their resume. The study and intern program is available for the fall and spring semester (15.5 weeks), a shorter course (9-10.5 weeks) is offered during winter quarter or summer. FIE's Experiential Education Team evaluates a student's CV, coursework and experience carefully to ensure an appropriate match is made between the student's background and an organization's needs. London is your classroom! Using the city, your faculty will lead co-curricular activities to museums, theatre productions, brewery's, historic sites, and more to put classroom theory into practice. FIE offers engaging and varied coursework, taught by renowned faculty. Elective offerings include courses in arts, literature, theater, global business, history, politics, social science, media, communication, social justice and contemporary Britain. FIE's relationships with local organizations and businesses are unparalleled. FIE offers a Service Internship pathway for those students who wish to pursue a professional experience in a not-for-profit or charity environment while giving back to the greater London community. The International Internship Course (IIC) provides students with the opportunity to ground their field-based internship experience with academic analysis and reflection. The IIC will help you channel your developing professional and cultural skills and provide personal and career awareness.

In 2014 the UK government reported that the fastest growing sector in the economy was that of the creative arts. This unique program gives students the opportunity to learn about a huge industry, to explore their own abilities for creation, and to participate in a community of creativity within one of the world’s most innovative cities. London is a stimulus for international artistic culture and an environment rich in opportunities for all students looking to challenge themselves or participate in the drama of creativity. London has something for everyone, including the more than 300 different languages spoken in this hugely diverse city. Under the direction of the institute director students will be required to select a minimum of 15-credits from the courses provided, attend all designated field events, and participate in the Cheltenham Literary Festival in the first weekend of October. Students will spend the weekend in Cheltenham, attend key events and meet with writers and organizers to gain insight into the creative process and the economics, management and promotion of a major international event. Students will gain an understanding of the influential role the creative arts industry has on national and global economics. Through studying and practical experience in the creative arts, students will enhance their communication skills as well as develop awareness for the range of employment throughout the industry.
Learn about community activism through observing and participating in important local, national, and trans-national agencies. In the Institute, students learn to understand and analyze the theoretical perspectives that shape social activism. By the end of the Institute, students will have a clear idea of how globalization impacts communities and urban environments. Participating hands on in the social dynamics of London, students observe the ways in which the lives of residents reflect the diversity of one of the most radically transformed environments in the world. This certificate goes beyond a minor by exploring a topic using courses across several majors. The courses combine discussing theory in the classroom with practical experiences outside the classroom. Students will develop skills needed for a life of active and engaged citizenship. The certificate authorizes that students connect ideas with action in exploring a pathway to a career in a civic or political industry. The certificate takes the place of a minor or specialization.
