The Czech Republic is known for its hot springs, beer and the city of Prague. Situated on the Vltava River, the Czech Republic’s capital and largest city, Prague, attracts millions of visitors each year and is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. This picturesque Old European town is also known as the “city of a hundred spires.” The historic center of Prague became a UNESCO world heritage site for its immaculate red-roofed white-walled buildings, amazing monuments, and historic architecture. The huge central landmark of Prague Castle surrounds a magnificent Gothic cathedral and houses several palaces, museums, and gardens. 
Although many parts of Prague appear architecturally to have stayed in the sixteenth century, the city is also modern and exciting. Historically made of the lands called Bohemia and Moravia in the center of Europe, the people of the Czech Republic have played a major role in European history and art. Today the Czech Republic is an economic star among the former Soviet Bloc countries. It is a developed nation, member of the EU, and a stable democracy. Whether one enjoys the unhurried pace of medieval villages or yearns to hike and perform outdoor sports in the hills, mountains and river valleys, the Czech Republic has something to offer everyone. 


The climate of the landlocked Czech Republic is temperate, with hot summers and cold winters. Holidays and Festivals Although the primary religion is Roman Catholicism, most Czechs do not identify themselves with a religious faith. 


Most travelers from the States enter through the international airport at Prague, but there are also many rail and road entries from the bordering nations, which include Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Poland. There are flights from Prague to many local airports as well as extensive road and rail networks. 


The Czech republic is a relatively small nation in the middle of Europe which historically was the site of many conflicts between its powerful neighbors. Today it is a developed nation with architecture and cities that offer a gateway into the past. The premier university of the Czech Republic is Charles University, founded in 1348 by Charles IV. It is ranked in the top 300 worldwide by QS and SJTU.The first non-military technical university in Europe, The Czech Technical University in Prague is well known for its nuclear sciences faculty and other engineering faculties, from whence came some noted discoveries as the Doppler effect and the technology of the steam ship. It is rated in the top 500 worldwide by QS. Other notable universities include the Brno University of Technology and Masaryk University.
