IES Abroad Barcelona – Journalism & Communications

IES Abroad

Barcelona’s spectacular setting on the sea, laid-back Spanish lifestyle, and vibrant culture make this city a great place to study abroad, but did you know Barcelona is one of Europe’s leading centers for digital media, international advertising, journalism, and publishing?

On this program, you can choose from a series of courses in Communications, Literature (including travel writing), Journalism, Playwriting, and much more. Barcelona will be your classroom. All of our courses feature course-related trips and faculty-led visits to cuttingedge digital media outlets, newsrooms, agencies, and more. Imagine studying advertising and then visiting an international ad agency or attending a lecture by an internationally known photojournalist as part of your visual storytelling course. It’s all waiting for you here in Barcelona.

You also have the opportunity to take courses at Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) and Universitat Ramon Llull (URL), two of Spain’s top universities for Journalism and Communications (among many other areas of study). All of our partner universities in Barcelona offer courses in a wide variety of disciplines.

Enhance what you learn in the classroom and add international work experience to your résumé by participating in an optional internship placement and accompanying seminar. Possible placements include advertising, tech-media startups, marketing, and writing for media-related organizations.

A wide variety of other disciplines are offered, as well. So you can supplement your study of Journalism and Communication with courses from our other programs in Barcelona focused on Art History, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and more!
