IES Abroad Rome – Art History & Fashion

IES Abroad

When you think about art or fashion, you think about Rome and Italy. From the massive advances achieved by the Roman Empire in art and architecture, through the works of the Italian Renaissance of the 15th century (think Michelangelo and Raphael) to today— with striking modern architecture by Renzo Piano and forward-looking fashions by Fendi, Gattinoni, Brioni, and the other houses based here—Rome has, very literally, millennia of artistic and architectural treasures, triumphs, and trends to study.

In our Art History & Fashion Program, you can choose from a series of courses on Art History (from Ancient to Baroque), Conservation, and so much more. You also have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take fashion-related courses (including design and styling) at the Accademia di Costume e Moda, one of the best-known Fashion Academies in Rome, or take art classes at the Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA).

Rome will be your classroom. All of our courses feature numerous faculty-led visits to museums, sites, and monuments. Imagine studying the work of Leonardo Da Vinci in class and then visiting the Vatican to see the Sistine Chapel as part of your coursework!

Enhance what you learn in the classroom and add international work experience to your résumé by participating in an optional internship or social action/service learning placement and accompanying seminar. Possible placements include art galleries, art studios, architecture firms, design agencies, and event management. A wide variety of other disciplines are offered, as well, so you can supplement your study of art and fashion with a course from another one of our programs in Rome focused on Italian language, International Relations, Sociology, and more.
